Crown of Thorns

Crown of Thorns - Every human is wearing their own crown.
It can made of gold, bay leaf, daisies or paper. Whoever does not comply is given a crown of thorns as a symbol of martyrdom, to limit the mind, to stop thinking, yet the mind cannot be tamed. Whoever wears a crown of thorns has experienced suffering.

The crown fits everyone, because every person receives a portion unsolicited, yet the crowns differ in the number of thorns, but also in length and shape. For Verstegen, it's about what they protect and keep inside, but also what they keep out.

As Marie Verstegen says herself; “Perhaps it is an indictment, against any form of authority, against mass oppression. Or an ode to those who think differently.”
